Common use
Betnovate contains betamethasone valerate, a medium-strength topical corticosteroid. It is used to treat a variety of inflammatory skin disorders, including eczema, psoriasis, dermatitis, and allergic rashes.
It helps by reducing swelling, redness, and itching. Betnovate is available in cream, ointment, and lotion forms and should be used only on the skin. It is not meant for acne or rosacea.
Dosage and direction
Apply a thin layer of Betnovate to the affected area once or twice daily, as directed by your doctor. Gently rub it in until fully absorbed. Wash your hands after application unless you are treating your hands.
Avoid applying to broken skin, eyes, or mucous membrains.
Do not use more than recommended, and do not cover treated areas with bandages unless instructed. Using too much can increase the risk of side effcts.
Precautions
Tell your doctor before using Betnovate if you have:
Skin infections
Acne, rosacea, or perioral dermatitis
Diabetes
A weakened immune system
Long-term or extensive use should be avoided, especially in children. Prolonged use can thin the skin or cause hormone-related issues.
Contraindications
Do not use Betnovate if you:
Are allergic to betamethasone or any other corticosteroids
Have untreated bacterial, viral, or fungal skin infections
Are using it on the face or genitals without medical advice
Do not use on children under 1 year old.

Drug interactions
Betnovate is unlikely to interact with most medications when used topically. However, avoid using other skin products in the same area without your doctors approval.
Missed dose
If you forget to apply Betnovate, do it as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed one. Do not double the amount to make up for a missed application.
Overdose
Overuse or prolonged use can cause significant skin thinning or systemic absorption leading to hormonal side effects. In rare cases, adrenal suppression may occur. Seek help if you notice unusual symptoms.
Storage
Store Betnovate at room temperature (68° - 77°F / 20° - 25°C). Protect from excessive heat and light. Keep out of reach of children and pets. Do not freeze.

In the United States, Betnovate is not widely available under this brand name, but similar formulations (like betamethasone valerate creams) are available by prescription only.
Betamethasone-containing products are FDA-approved for specific skin conditions and are regulated based on strength and usage area (face, scalp, body). Over-the-counter versions do not exist for this strength.
