Common use
Benzac is a topical gel or wash that contains benzoyl peroxide, a widely used treatment for mild to moderate acne vulgaris. It works by killing acne-causing bacteria (P. acnes), helping pores stay unclogged, and drying out excess oil on the skin.
This treatment is also known to reduce skin redness and swelling, improving the overall appearence of the skin over time.
Dosage and direction
Benzac is usually applied to the affected area once or twice daily. Follow the instructions provided by your dermatologist or the product packaging.
Clean and dry the skin before application. Apply a thin layer of the gel and avoid contact with the eyes, mouth, and mucous membranes.
It may take 4-6 weeks to see improvment. If your condition worsens, contact your healthcare provider.

Benzac is for external use only. Accidental ingestion should be treated as a medical emergency. Excessive topical use may result in severe skin irritation.
Storage
Store Benzac at room temperature (68° - 77°F or 20° - 25°C). Keep away from heat, flame, and direct sunlight. Keep the container tightly closed when not in use.

Benzac is available over the counter in the United States in various strengths (2.5%, 5%, 10%). Some stronger formulations may require a prescription.
While it is not regulated as strictly as oral acne medications like Accutane, you should consult a dermatologist before beginning use especially if your skin is sensitive or you're using other treatments.
