Common use
Temovate (clobetasol propionate) is a high-potency corticosteroid used to relieve symptoms of inflammatory skin conditions such as eczema, dermatitis, and psoriasis. It works by suppressing inflammation and immune response in the affected areas.
It is usually prescribed for short-term use on thickened, resistant skin areas like elbows, knees, and scalp.
Dosage and direction
Apply a thin layer of Temovate cream, ointment, or solution to the affected skin once or twice daily as directed by your healthcare provider.
Do not cover the treated area with occlusive bandages unless advised. Wash hands after applying, unless you are treating the hands.
Avoid long-term or large-area application to minimize risk of steroid side effects.
Precautions
Before using Temovate, tell your doctor if you have:
Skin infections (fungal, viral, or bacterial)
Diabetes
Liver dysfunction
Thin or damaged skin
Avoid contact with eyes, mouth, or open wounds. Do not use it on face, underarms, or groin unless directed. Prolonged use may cause skin thinning or hormonal effects.
Contraindications
Do not use Temovate if you are allergic to clobetasol or other corticosteroids.
It is not recommended for:
Rosacea or perioral dermatitis
Acne
Children under 12 years old without medical supervision
Possible side effects
Common side effects include:
Burning, stinging, or itching at application site
Dryness or cracking
Temporary redness or rash
Serious side effects (less common):
Skin thinning or stretch marks
Increased hair growth
Secondary infections
Hormonal problems (Cushing syndrom)

Drug interactions
Temovate has low risk of systemic interactions, but inform your doctor if you are using:
Other corticosteroids (oral, injectable, or topical)
Ritonavir or other immunosuppressants
Avoid combining with irritant topical agents unless instructed.
Missed dose
If you miss a dose, apply it as soon as you remember. If it's almost time for your next dose, skip the missed one. Do not double the dose.
Overdose
Excessive or prolonged use may cause systemic steroid effects like weight gain, fatigue, or mood changes. In case of suspected overdose, seek medikal help.
Storage
Store at room temperature (68° - 77°F / 20° - 25°C). Keep the container tightly closed and away from direct heat or sunlight. Do not freeze.
U.S. Sale and Prescription Policy
In the United States, Temovate is FDA-approved and classified as a prescription-only medication due to its high potency. It is not sold over-the-counter, and use without proper medical guidance is discouraged.
Only licensed healthcare providers can prescribe Temovate, often for limited duration (2-4 weeks), especially to avoid long-term side effects. Federal law prohibits distribution without a valid prescription.
